Hakola meets Tarkovski

Andrei Tarkovski: The Sacrifice / SEA

Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra
conductor Sakari Oramo
soprano Anu Komsi
violin Laura Vikman

Kimmo Hakola’s recent masterpiece Le Sacrifice draws inspiration from the melancholy, poetic The Sacrifice that was to be the last film ever made by Andrei Tarkovski. Winner of the Teosto Prize, Hakola’s Le Sacrifice combines a large orchestra and soloists with an electronic soundscape created at Ircam in Paris that projects the voices of great singers of the past into the concert hall.

The premiere performance of the final version of this work will be followed by the Tarkovsky film. The language of the film is Swedish, subtitles in Finnish and English.  Restored copy of the film: Svenska Filminstitutet & Svensk Filmindustri in cooperation with the Finnish Film Archive.

Artist talk during the interval: Kimmo Hakola, Antti Alanen (The Finnish Film Archive) and Risto Nieminen (Helsinki Festival) in the audience foyer.

Duration of the concert is approx. 1h 30min, The Sacrifice 2h 30min.

Programme

Hakola: Le Sacrifice
Tarkovski: The Sacrifice

"Hakolan Uhri on kaikkiaan upea kuunteluelämys. Synteettisten äänten käyttö on hienostunutta, ja ne sulautuvat hyvin laulu- ja viulusolistin osuuksiin. Teknologiasta ei tule koskaan kylmää ja vieraannuttavaa. Musiikissa on säveltäjälle tuttua monityylisyyttä ja ironisiakin viitteitä, mutta yleissävy on silti syvällinen ja aidosti eletty." Harri Kuusisaari, Rondo 1/2003
